DESCRIPTION

The Intarsia exhibition is the fruit of a collaboration between Franco-Danish painter Eva Nielsen and artisans from two exceptional LVMH Métiers d’Art manufactures. The vernissage takes place between May 12th and May 26th at the Espace FORMA in Paris.

Chosen by LVMH Métiers d’Art for an artistic residency in 2021, Eva Nielsen spent seven months with artisans at two prestigious French manufactures: Tanneries Roux, renowned for its exceptional expertise in tanning and finishing calfskin leather, and Twinpix, a silk printing workshop and a pioneer in double-sided printing.

This seven-month immersion spawned the works displayed in the Intarsia exhibition, an ongoing dialogue between art and savoir-faire that proposes a striking vision of materials, as canvas meets landscapes.

Through her dialogue with the artisans, Eva Nielsen fused leather, silk and canvas in her creations, applying a host of techniques including silkscreen printing on leather, printing on organza or sewing. In her new works, Eva Nielson explores and composes visions that create a world of encounters, parallels and connections against the backdrop of the vertiginous landscapes of the Vercors region, the location of her residency.

Created by the Group in 2015, LVMH Métiers d’Art supports the preservation of exceptional savoir-faire and materials through an approach that combines innovation and passing on inestimable time-honoured expertise. In 2016 LVMH Métiers d’Art created its artist in residence program, which hosts an annual exhibition where artists’ visions meet the unique talents of artisans.
